Withania – Treatment For Prolonged Stress & Anxiety

Elevated Cortisol levels are produced as a result of increased periods of stress, fear, worry and even excessive noise etc…

When Cortisol is produced under these circumstances it is known as the ‘fight or flight response’ and is necessary for you being able to respond and deal with the above mentioned. This coping mechanism works well however when the body experiences ‘prolonged or excessive’ stress etc cortisol levels can remain elevated indefinitely causing a number of health issues as follows:

In one placebo-controlled study Withania was administered to a group of men and women over a 60 day period and was shown to dramatically reduce stress and anxiety. Cortisol levels were also significantly reduced and an overall reduction in the side effects associated with elevated cortisol was also noted.

Withania for weight loss:

Withania has been shown in several studies to support weight loss due to its ability to lower cortisol levels and improve insulin sensitivity (elevated cortisol levels reduce insulin sensitivity). Elevated, prolonged cortisol levels have also been shown to have a negative impact on the Thyroid Gland and Thyroid Hormone output.

Due to Withania’s ability to reduce cortisol levels, obviously this can have a positive effect on thyroid function to ensure optimal metabolic rates are maintained.
